Republican Response

In what continues to be a rather negative political environment, Governor Corzine is registering impressive job rating and approval numbers. One can surmise that his straight talk on the budget and ethics are driving the favorable views voters have of him. There are, however, some clouds on the horizon. The Governor has committed to addressing the property tax crisis and, to date, there is precious little to show for his efforts. Any meaningful reforms must address benefits for public employees, which will certainly anger them. If he does this it will cost him in his base, as nearly three out of four people who have a stake in the public pension system approve of the job he is doing as Governor.
