Response by Stephen Salmore
It is not surprising the Governor's ratings
have not changed over many months. News about the Governor has been
more about his failures than his successes. Since the election in
November, McGreevey has withdrawn his proposal to increase gasoline
taxes, withdrawn his proposal to merge the three major state universities,
and his proposal to control sprawl has stalled in the legislature.
His only success--passing a domestic partnership bill--is not likely
to prove extremely popular. The public view of the governor is not
going to improve until he can claim some major policy successes.
