Response by Rick Thigpen

Republican hopes to make McGreevey the sole issue in this fall’s legislative elections seem destined to crash on the rocks of the President’s poor economic performance.  Despite doubts about the Governor’s performance, New Jersey voters are currently expressing a clear preference for Democratic candidates this fall.   Republican hopes of achieving victory by running against McGreevey without expressing, any direction or program of their own, appear to be fading with the President’s job approval ratings in this state. Ultimately, not being McGreevey doesn’t appear to be good enough for the voters to turn control of the legislature over to the Republicans.
