Republican Response

The most notable aspect of this survey is that the public appears to be unconcerned with the sales tax increase.  Given the political volatility of the last few months, Governor Corzine should be relatively happy with the data in this survey.  If one places these data in an electoral context, however, these numbers should cause some concern for the Governor; his job performance is upside down at 42-53 and his favorable rating is rather tepid at 48-32.  Possibly of greatest concern, however, is the right track-wrong track at 34% to 50%.  In addition, Independents are tracking with Republicans with 25% right track versus 64% wrong track, numbers that will ultimately attach to the Governor if they don't improve.  Short term forecast: partly sunny with gusty winds.  Long term forecast: tropical depression that needs to be watched with the possibility of organizing into a Category 1 hurricane.
