Response by Rick Thigpen

Add to the Governor's political challenges, a public plagued with doubts about his administration. Already he faces fiscal catastrophe caused first by years of unrestrained spending and now a slumping national economy that has caused state income tax revenues to plummet. The President offers New Jersey nothing, while dangling billions of dollars in front of Turkey to gain its cooperation with the war. While Bush's popularity soars from foreign military operations, our Governor, like 36 or so others, is left holding the fiscal bag. Faced with yet another year of no win budget options, Governor McGreevey can thank President Bush for this journey through the valley of the shadow of political death.
