Response by Rick Thigpen

With election day just 2 ½ weeks away, Lautenberg appears to be "In like Flint." Despite his late entrance into the race, he is demonstrating surprising political muscle, leading Doug Forrester in virtually every category of significance. Or, perhaps the real story is that because Doug Forrester's campaign has failed to connect with independent voters, he has failed to capitalize on his opportunity to win. If Lautenberg can get his voters to the polls, barring a last minute collapse, he is clearly on track towards victory. I'm sure that never in a million years did Frank Lautenberg dream that he would be thanking Bob Torricelli for an early return to the U.S. Senate.
