Republican Response

Since coming into office, Governor Corzine has had extremely negative right track-wrong track numbers hanging over his head, which have mostly been attributed to the national political environment.  While he has never scored particularly strong approval ratings, the Governor has, by and large, been able to buck this negative trend.  Like the Sword of Damocles, however, it is only a matter of time before a negative political environment crashes down on those in power.  After two years of being relatively immune from this negativity, it appears as if the Governor’s slide is starting, a slide no doubt precipitated by his own plan to raise tolls.  While the Governor prides himself on telling the public things it doesn’t want to hear, it’s probably time to come up with something good to talk about.  This doesn’t bode well for the rest of the Governor’s statewide tour to explain the toll plan.
